MIXCRAFT RECORDING SOFTWARE

I was hired in 2011 to work for Acoustica, a software company located just outside of Yosemite CA, as their Creative Director. Their primary software that produce is a multi-track audio recording and mastering program. A primary part of my job is to design and create the software UI.

MIXCRAFT PLUG-IN DESIGNS

Acoustica has also created their own plug-ins that can be used inside of Mixcraft. They have engineered some very useful mastering tools that come included with the software. These include the ones I created for the Alpha Sampler, Omni Sampler, 31 Band EQ and the Pro Studio Reverb. These are examples of how the plug-ins took shape from the design and building process.

ALPHA SAMPLER

When working the Alpha Sampler, I remember laying the ground work with the Sound Engineers about its overall look. The look of this particular sampler was modeled around some of the layouts of the 80’s and other vintage recording devises. You can see the use of the color orange in the labeling, curves in the button/knob frame corners and the wood housing panels were used as the finishing details.

OMNI SAMPLER

This custom sampler was very challenging. It had lots of parts that were needing to fit in a small space, and give you lots of controls without any big menu drop-downs. It was a tight fit, and it took about 4 other design drafts to finally get this one right. The engineers were able to condense more of the controls and I found ways to nest them into the final layout. Everyone was pleased with the final sampler.
